3 Scottish Isles You Must Visit This Year

What I love most about Scotland and the isles is how much they vary! From moody landscapes in Skye to crystal clear waters in Harris, there’s so much to do and see across the 900 odd off shore Isles in Scotland. But today we’re going to focus on 3 that I feel are a must visit this year.

Where you can I’d really recommend you spend at least 3 days in each Isle (a week if you can swing it) so that you’re not rushing from location to location especially if you’re visiting in off season where you don’t get as much light during the day.

Isle of Skye

I know, I know, you’ve probably heard PLENTY about Isle of Skye, but with good reason! This incredible isle is the first I saw when visiting Scotland and it absolutely stole my heart away!.
It’s the largest Isle in Scotland and boasts some pretty famous spots including: The Fairy Pools, The Fairy Glen, he Quiaraing, Kilt Rock and Old Man of Storr.
Some honourable mentions deserve to go to Neist Point Lighthouse, Elgol Beach and Sligachan Bridge which are all spectacular places too.

Isle of Mull
They’ve got cheese, they’ve got Puffins, they’ve got a bonus Isle accessible by a short ferry, they’ve got colourful buildings - just a few reasons why Isle of Mull is worthwhile a visit this year!
Isle of Mull is a great isle for Puffin spotting with Staffa Tours, which also ironically takes you to Staffa 😂 Isle of Mull has to be one of my most favorite holidays we’ve taken here in Scotland as it’s got a bit of everything!
You can also take the ferry over to Isle of Iona for the day and have a dip in the crystal clear waters (if you’re brave!)
A visit to Mull isn’t complete without coffee, cake and cheese at Isle of Mull Cheese which is one of the most photographable cafes i’ve ever been to.

Isle of Harris & Lewis
One of the more outer hebrides, the Isle of Harris and Lewis (which are connected) are some of the most rural and wild isles we’ve had the pleasure of visiting. I honestly felt like i was on another planet when visiting Harris and Lewis and feel like we maybe bit off a tiny bit more than we could chew on this trip as we were quite new to island travelling. The roads can get very small and rough and you often won’t see another car for hours. But the isolation of these incredible isles are what makes it so special.

Here you can find the Calanais Standing Stones, beautiful sand dunes and Luskentyre Beach (and so much more) We travelled in off season so weather was a bit precarious, but we felt like we had the whole isle to ourselves!

So there you have it! Inspiration for you for the next 3 isles to tick off your Scottish bucket list. Which one are you the most keen to check out? Or what Isle would you give an honourable mention to? Let us know below!
